28 Books in 2008

Introduction

The 28 Books in 2008 Challenge is well, really self-explanatory so I can’t really say much besides the fact that I am participating in this challenge.

Book List

[Book #1]

  1. Title: The Things They Carried
  2. Author: Tim O’Brien
  3. Started: December 31, 2007
  4. Finished: January 4, 2008
  5. Thoughts: It’s hard to put down; it’s one of those rare novels assigned in class that I actually want to read. It’s both a novel and a collection of short stories; individual “chapters” can stand on their own, but strangely the book itself as a whole is connected.

[Book #2]

  1. Title: The Golden Compass/Northern Lights
  2. Author: Phillip Pullman
  3. Started: January 9, 2008
  4. Finished: N/A
  5. Thoughts: I love this so far! But I can’t finish it yet because school is demanding much of my time. T_T

[Book #3]

  1. Title: Pedro Paramo
  2. Author: Juan Rulfo
  3. Started: January 2, 2008
  4. Finished:January 2, 2008
  5. Thoughts: The shortest and strangest book I have ever read about life in purgatory and how salvation is futile for a lot of people. It was also quite confusing, given the many shifts in speaker. O_O.

[Book #4]

  1. Title: Midaq Alley
  2. Author: Naguib Mahfouz
  3. Started: February 24, 2008
  4. Finished: February 24, 2008
  5. Thoughts: This 280 or so page novel went by really fast; I expected this novel about a small area in Cairo, Egypt to be really boring (the beginning is a bit dull, though), but I actually liked it overall. Who knew that a seemingly simple story about this humble area in Egypt could pack so much?

[Book #5]

  1. Title: To The Lighthouse
  2. Author: Virginia Woolf
  3. Started: March 15, 2008
  4. Finished: N/A
  5. Thoughts: Woolf’s prose style is both very eloquent and at times difficult to get into…

Obviously, I can read something in less than a day if necessary (if you get what I mean). x-D

Ooo I really wanted to read The Golden Compass, downloaded the E-book and everything, but didn’t get around to finishing =D

  2. Next Year I’ll be in IB (hopefully!)

You know, i have this fear. It’s that I won;t be able to read as much as I usually do, when IB starts for me.

Oh, and tv. I’m worried that I’ll miss out on Mythbusters.
